ARTIST FEATURE #8
HEART AND SOUL OF HAKUZU
WHAT MADE YOU WANT TO GET INTO MUSIC?
When I was very young my brother got a guitar and would always show me Metallica songs he learned and I thought it was the coolest thing ever. I ended up getting a drumset.. but some scoundrel friends and I thought it would be fun to smash them and stab the heads with knives lol yeah my parents didn’t like that.
But later on when moved from the middle of nowhere in Pennsylvania to New Jersey, I made friends who all played instruments, mainly guitar. I had really bad ADHD and was hyper so one day my brother put a guitar in my hand and told me to shut the hell up! So I played EVERYDAY after school and became addicted to it. Now here I am 17 years later and I’ve learned how to play guitar, bass, drums, sing, produce and run live sound. Disclaimer: I’m still addicted.
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR STYLE OF MUSIC?
My style of music now is future bass/trap with some reggae/rock/hiphop mixed in. Imagine Droeloe mixed with John Mayer and incubus with a little phonk in there.
My favorite thing to do is to mix genres that have never been mixed and make it cohesive as possible.
My style is always evolving and as I improve as a musician/music producer the sound is getting more refined and interesting.

WHAT INFLUENCES YOUR MUSIC?
My collaboration process usually based off of how I used to make music in the bands I was in earlier in my music career. So jamming on simple ideas together until something is sparked.
That’s one way, but that’s if we are close/in person. I have done collabs with people over seas more than at home to be honest and they were with very talented vocalists who I sent a instrumental track to and let them have complete creative freedom to write what they want. I’ll get the content back and mix it in. Unless it’s cringe or really bad I don’t have much input on that end other than explaining maybe a vibe or vision I had for what the song could be. But I love to see what they come with on their own, always works best. Then like I said I mix and master the final project for my releases.
ANY COLLABORATIONS IN THE FUTURE? AND ANY FINAL THOUGHT FOR THE READERS?
I am someone who believes that a true musician is someone who can conquer any genre, and I personally love learning stuff that is out of my comfort zone. I’m huge into personal development and that translates into music as well. Whether it’s learning new genres of electronic, or picking up a nylon string guitar to learn Nintendo music arranged for classical guitar… I am constantly growing.
So I can promise that I will never stop creating new sounds, new vibes, mixed styles/genres, and dialing in my mixing/mastering skills. There is much much more on the horizon from my as a musician and artist.
